WHAT TO EXPECT AT 200 HOURS YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

200hrs Ayama Yoga Teacher Training Retreats

THE BODY

“The Body is the temple of the Spirit.

In our 200 HOURS Yoga Teacher Training, the journey of self-discovery begins from the body. Eveything starts from the body, it is the primal vessel for exreriencing life. In order to realize the wisdom lying within we need to study the human anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of the human body. You learn the importance of alignment and when to let go, how to use props, variations or modifications of yoga postures. And the first student you are going to teach is yourself! It is really amazing when we play both roles and switch from one into other. Our goal is to help you awaken the “Teacher” within.

THE BREATH

“Learn how to exhale, the inhale will take care of itself.”

Breath for humans is the carrier of prana, the vital energy. Many people have neglected the importance of breathing resulting in an unbalanced life. Breathing is not just a mechanical process, breath is the link between mind and body. In this yoga teacher training you will learn the basic techniques to cultivate breath awareness and increase your vital energy. Conscious breathing heightens awareness and deepens relaxation. The ability to breathe is a gift, let us be grateful each day for that gift.

MIND AND SPIRIT

“You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul and you have a body.”

The next stop on this inner journey of self-transformation, is the mind. As we exercise the body, so we need to exercise our mind. Because Mind is the mediator for the Spirit. It is important to become aware that everything comes from inside our mind. Any aspect of yoga pracice, in reality, is always aiming at training the mind and become masters and not servents of it. Every morning we take time learning mental concentration techniques to empower the ability for focusing the mental energy. An intensive yoga teacher training provides an excelent opportunity for dialy and dedicated yoga practice and this has a profound effect on the students.

CURRICULUM ANALYSIS

Asana Training

The Physical Body: Yoga postures (Asanas) are very popular and quite a mainstream nowadays. Therefore we find it very important to provide you with the best knowledge on this field. Every day in our training includes about 5-6 hours study and practice the physical postures in many aspects. Some of the topics we will focus are:

  • Do’s and Dont’s, Common mistakes
  • Why, How & When to use Props in best ways
  • Guided Relaxation Techniques for Savasana
  • Vinyasa Theory, History & Practice
  • Safety rules for the human body and for the class
  • Hands On – The Gentle Art of Assisting & Adjusting
  • Shat Kriyas, the yogic cleansings (Jala Neti, Tratak, etc)
  • Introduction to Restorative Yoga

Anatomy Training

Anatomy & Biomechanics:  Daphne is our specialist who will guide you in the depths of your physical body. She has a degree on physiotherapy, and diploma as a yoga teacher and clinical pilates therapist. In short, she is an excellent combination to teach you how the human body works.

  • An overview of the basic system in human body
(Bones, Muscles, Nerves, Respiratory system, etc.)
  • Principles of Kinesiology
  • Asana functional Anatomy

We use an advanced 3D software to analyse the movement of all major joints and muscles and how they work on yoga practice & asanas

Pranayama Training

The Vital Energy (Prana):  Breath is the link that brings body and mind in union. It is the most important aspect in any yoga practice. We are breath lovers and we’ll teach you how to cherish it as the most precious wealth you posses. Every morning we start with pranayama so you learn how to practice and teach the following breathing techniques with safety.

  • The three levels of Breathing
  • The Four Stages in Pranayama
  • Breathing Techniques for Begginers, Intermediate & Advanced
(Sama Vritti, Ujjayi, Brahmari, Kapalbhati and many more)
  • Antar & Bhaya Kumbhaka, breath retentions
  • Bandhas (energy locks) & Mudras (energy seals)
  • Do’s and Dont’s, Common mistakes
  • Pancha Kosha, the Five Energy Bodies
  • Introduction to Ayurveda and Tridoshas

Meditation Training

The Mind (Manas & Budhi):  Did you know that asanas were invented primarily for the body to be able to seat longer in meditation without strain? Ancient yogis had realized that all is in our mind therefore we need to understand its function and master it and not let it master us. We are going to provide you wtih basic techniques and support you on this inner quest. Every morning or evening you will have the opportunity to train your mind with your body as well.

The Four Stages of Meditation

  • Pratyahara
  • Dharana
  • Dhyana
  • Samandhi

Teaching Methodology

Teaching is different than practicing: When you teach you are the example for your students

  • How we create a series of postures (sequencing) and how we present a class from start to finish.
  • How we create a safe environment for our class.
  • How we observe a class as a whole or individual practitioners and what the priorities are.
  • Compact, to the point instructions for effective teaching styles.
  • Rhetoric, the importance of body language, voice and touch in teaching
  • The behavior and ethics of a Yoga teacher and
  • The evolutionary learning process in a class of practitioners.

History and Philosophy

The Mind (Manas & Budhi):  This module is particularly important, because it includes the study and analysis of traditional texts and other teachings. We aim at deepening in the philosophy and essence of Yoga. Through the analysis and study of the texts, we discover how we can apply the ancient philosophy to modern everyday life. In this way, students are able to advance their personal spiritual quest while at the same time solidifying the ethical code for teachers in the modern times we live in.

Introduction to the following ancient texts:

  • Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
  • Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • Bhagavad Gita

Read what they say about us

I searched a lot to find the right place to do my yoga training and Christos from the first moment made me feel safe as I had little experience. It was the best choice I could have made… It opened up roads that I didn’t know existed… The whole team is amazing, very well organized and the retreat in all is a unique experience!

Nikki

I attended the 200-hour training program in 2018 after an extensive search to find the right place and people to help me discover the world of yoga beyond mat practice. Christos was that person who, from the very first conversation, made me feel warm and confident about what would follow.

Penny

I completed my training in Ayama 2 years ago. I would go back in time and relive it if I could. Knowledge with substance, love and care. Proper guidance for development and support. For me, now, Ayama is a nest that I can return to whenever I need to.

Electra

A yoga training program that gave me the strength, in addition to being a lifelong student of yoga, to also share the path I walk and continue to learn. I am thrilled with the experience and highly recommend it. I thank all the teachers of Ayama Yoga House for the endless knowledge they generously share.
